Top 3 Reactions to Meeting an Organizer

In the time I’ve been an organizer, I’ve gotten to do a LOT of networking. As we all know, the most common question after asking a person’s name is some variation on, “What do you do?”

Say you’re an organizer, and you’re likely to receive one of 3 responses, and they might not be what you expect:

  1. Don’t look at my car! Some people are, first and foremost, concerned about how they’ll be viewed if they’re “found out” to be less than Pinterest-Perfect. This fear of judgement is unfounded. Organizers help all kinds of people get their spaces in order and an organizer worth their stuffing is not going to care if you’re home isn’t tidy.
  2. Can you help my spouse!? As much as I appreciate seeing that someone values what I do, we are all aware of the challenge of changing habits. Much like when a patient sees a new doctor or a therapist for the first time, there’s hope that the professional will be able to wave a magic wand and fix whatever ails us. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but organizers are not marriage counselors. We can only help those who are ready, willing, and able to engage in the process.
  3. *Excitement* I need you! Great! Don’t avoid it any longer! Let’s set up a time to meet! Sometimes, just setting aside a time to get this work done is all you need. Organizers are great accountabili-buddies and want to help you achieve your goals for your space, and our hours are typically very flexible, so we can work around your schedule. You just have to promise not to tidy before we get there 😉
